On October 8th TES Preschoolers and Kindergartners participated in Jumpstart's Read for the Record. This is an annual event to help promote early literacy. Jumpstart set a record of having one million children reading the same book on the same day all around the world. This year's chosen book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.
Tallassee Elementary celebrated the day by hosting Read for the Record night. The students participated in a puppet show and the reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. All students were provided with their own copy of this loved book. The students then rotated to three different stations. In the library, the students created their own The Very Hungry Caterpillar book. In the gym, students had a jumping great time in the Dora the Explorer and Monster Truck jumper, while others learned a jumping line dance. Parents were provide with literature on how to help their young reader and encouraged to read at home. Tallassee elementary was happy to participate this year adding 250 children to the one million book goal.
